Biography

Michael Greenspan is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen's University. He earned his BSc in Physics Applied Mathematics from the University of Toronto in 1986, followed by a BASc in Electrical Engineering in 1989 and an MASc in Electrical Engineering in 1991 from the University of Ottawa. He completed his PhD in Systems Computer Engineering at Carleton University in Ottawa in 1991. Between 1991 and 2001, Dr. Greenspan worked at the Institute for Information Technology at the National Research Council Canada, where he was a researcher and ultimately the leader of the Computational Video Group. He has published over 30 technical papers and holds 3 patents. His research interests include object recognition and pose determination. He works on developing methods for efficiently identifying and localizing known objects in image data, and is currently investigating methods for motion planning in robotics. Dr. Greenspan is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and holds an appointment on the Research Management Committee of Precarn Associates, Inc.
