Dr. Michael Gruninger

Biography

Michael Gruninger is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he also serves as the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies. He has previously spent five years as an Assistant Research Scientist at the Institute for Systems Research at the University of Maryland, College Park, and has been a Guest Researcher at the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). His current research focuses on the design and formal characterization theories in mathematical logic as they apply to manufacturing enterprise engineering. Gruninger has notable contributions in the area of process specification, particularly his recent work on the Process Specification Language, which has been published as an International Standard (ISO 18629). He holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Alberta.
