Biography

Michael Head has worked for 11 years at University College London before moving to the University of Southampton in 2015. Based at the Clinical Informatics Research Unit, within the Faculty of Medicine since 2018, he leads the 'RESIN' group that analyzes research funding trends and directs global health research programs. His role includes working within the university's Media and Communications Directorate as an Advocacy Manager. Michael has been involved in academic partnerships with various Ghanaian institutions, including the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University for Development Studies. He earned a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and studied epidemiology at the postgraduate level, completing his PhD at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health Development, University of Amsterdam. Michael's research primarily focuses on the health needs of vulnerable populations, vaccine hesitancy, and the impact of climate change on health services in Ghana and Togo. He has extensive experience in public engagement, conducting outreach through media interviews and published articles regarding COVID-19 research and other critical health issues.
