Michael Herrmann received his Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Leipzig in 1988 and a Doctorate from the same institution in 1993. His PhD focused on the mathematical aspects of artificial neural networks. He has held a temporary position as an assistant professor at the University of Goettingen and subsequently was appointed as a lecturer in Robotics at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.
