Mike Hildebrand completed his PhD in neurophysiology at the University of British Columbia and subsequently undertook an industrial R&D fellowship at NeuroMed Pharmaceuticals in Vancouver. He completed an academic postdoctoral fellowship at SickKids Hospital. Currently, he leads a translational pain research program as a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University and serves as an Affiliate Investigator at The Ottawa Hospital. His dynamic research team comprises undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers focused on studying the mechanisms and potential treatment targets for pain using a combination of animal models and pioneering human spinal cord preclinical assays. Additionally, he serves as the Associate Vice-Provost for Graduate Student Affairs in the Office of Graduate Studies. He enjoys supervising students at both undergraduate and graduate levels and has taught courses in Sensory Motor Neuroscience and Current Advances in Neuroscience. His lab, the Hildebrand Lab, investigates spinal mechanisms of pain processing, employing molecular, pharmacological, electrophysiological, and behavioral approaches to identify pathways regulating pain sensation in both acute and chronic pain states. The lab's goals include exploring spinal networks and identifying new molecular targets for managing chronic pain.
