Biography

Michael Hornberger is a Professor of Applied Dementia at the University of Southampton, specializing in dementia research, particularly focusing on personalized cognition and neuroimaging in preclinical and clinical dementia populations. His work seeks to investigate the cortical and subcortical changes associated with dementia, using advanced neuroimaging techniques and sensors/wearables to detect real-world changes in cognitive function. Originally from Germany, Michael moved to the UK to pursue his PhD at University College London. Afterward, he held academic positions at the University of Cambridge, the University of New South Wales, and the University of East Anglia. He joined the University of Southampton in 2025 and is actively involved in the Interdisciplinary Dementia Ageing Centre and Dementia Psychiatry research groups. In his free time, he enjoys long-distance cycling, running, and practicing yoga.
