Biography

Michael Johnston specializes in late medieval England and Middle English literature. He is the author of the monograph 'Romance Gentry in Late Medieval England,' published by Oxford University Press in 2014, and 'The Middle English Book: Scribes and Readers, 1350–1500,' released by Oxford University Press in 2023. Currently, he is working on a catalogue of manuscripts of 'Prick of Conscience' and has a side project focusing on the authorship of 'Piers Plowman,' for which he has written essays. Johnston teaches a wide range of courses in early British literature, including introductory courses for English majors. He holds a BA from John Carroll University (2000), an M.Litt. from the University of St Andrews (2002), and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University (2007).
