Biography

Michael Joner is a W3 professor specializing in early phase clinical trials and cardiology at the Technical University of Munich. His expertise is focused on translational assessment of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic methods related to obstructive coronary artery disease. The Joner Lab develops and evaluates novel molecular hybrid intravascular imaging catheters that aim to delineate the functional profile of atherosclerotic coronary plaques as well as their morphological characterization. Joner studied medicine at Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg, where he completed his dissertation on integrin regulation in heart failure. Following his education, he undertook a two-year fellowship in cardiovascular pathology under the mentorship of Prof. Virmani in Washington DC. Upon returning to Germany, he was appointed to direct the department of Structural Heart Disease at the German Heart Center Munich. Joner has contributed significantly to the field of cardiology and has received numerous accolades including the Section Editor role for the EuroIntervention Journal and several prestigious awards for his research and contributions.
