Biography

Michael Jones is an Emeritus Reader in Molecular Medicine at Imperial College London. With a focus on understanding the structure and function of genes, particularly those associated with the pathogenesis of viruses and bacteria, Jones has significantly contributed to the field of infectious diseases. He began his academic journey with an MSc in Molecular Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital Campus in 1996 and later earned his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham. Following his doctoral studies, he held post-doctoral fellowships in Aarhus, Denmark, and at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund laboratories in London. In 1985, he joined the Royal Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith, where he worked as a Wellcome Trust Lecturer, specializing in genomic structure and function relating to herpes viruses.
