Biography

Michael Kennedy is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, Recreation at the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and became a Clinical Exercise Physiologist in 2007. His research focuses on athlete health and performance in extreme environments, examining factors such as sex, training status, and injuries that influence exercise performance. Kennedy has contributed to the scientific community through various publications and presentations. He leads the Athlete Health Lab, where his work includes developing models to understand the physiological impacts of extreme temperatures on athletes and providing recommendations for training and competition under these conditions. Kennedy has also been a lead sport scientist for multiple university teams and is currently the director of Fitness Testing Services. His teaching roles include courses on biological aspects of fitness and endurance training methods, as well as supervising research projects and directed studies. His scholarly work includes investigations into exercise performance responses and respiratory health during extreme conditions, and he has presented his findings at notable conferences around the world.
