Biography

Michael Kennedy is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. He is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and has extensively researched the interaction between exercise performance and environmental factors such as extreme cold and heat. Dr. Kennedy's PhD focused on integrative physiology related to oxygen delivery during exercise in elite athletes. After obtaining his Clinical Exercise Physiologist designation in 2007, he joined the faculty where he has served as the lead sport scientist for several university athletic teams. His current research in the Athlete Health Lab explores how environmental conditions, sex, training status, and injury impact exercise performance, especially in female athletes. He has published numerous articles investigating the physiological and perceptual responses to exercise in extreme environments. In terms of teaching, Dr. Kennedy offers courses related to biological aspects of fitness, endurance training methods, and sport physiology, equipping students with practical knowledge necessary for careers in kinesiology and sport science.
