Michael Kranert is a sociolinguist and discourse researcher with a focus on language and politics, particularly in the context of German-speaking countries. He teaches modules on Language and Society as well as Language, Power, and Institutions. His research interests center around political discourse and comparative political discourse analysis, especially relating to populist discourses. Michael is currently the Director of Programs for Undergraduate Degrees in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton, where he also serves as Treasurer for DiscourseNet, an international association for Discourse Studies. His publications include work on the discourses of New Labour and the German SPD, as well as various projects analyzing the interplay of language and political institutions. Kranert is also an Associate Editor for a Palgrave book series titled Postdisciplinary Studies in Discourse.
