Dr. Michael Kurz

Biography

Michael Christopher Kurz, MD is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on sudden cardiac arrest, emphasizing intra- and post-arrest care, novel serum biomarkers for ischemia-reperfusion injury, and rehabilitation of cardiac arrest survivors. Additionally, he is involved in the development of resuscitation systems of care. His scholarly contributions include over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, editorials, and reviews. His work has been published in prestigious journals such as NEJM, JAMA, Circulation, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Kurz serves as a guest editor for Circulation and has played a significant role in the American Heart Association (AHA) as the immediate past chair of the Emergency Cardiac Care Committee. He actively contributes to the advancement of guidelines for advanced life support. Throughout his career, he has mentored numerous residents and fellows, many of whom have successfully become physician-scientists. Dr. Kurz has secured funding from organizations including the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense for his research.
