Michael Levine is the Anthony B. Evnin '62 Professor in Genomics and a Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, where he also directs the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics. For over 30 years, his laboratory has investigated the mechanisms governing gene regulation, particularly during early development in Drosophila embryos. This research includes significant studies on noncoding regions that control gene expression patterns, which are critical for defining cell behavior. His work has led to the discovery of essential gene networks in various organisms, including vertebrate innovations such as the cranial neural crest and heart fields. Before joining Princeton, Levine served as a professor at UC Berkeley and held multiple leadership roles in genetics and genomics research. He earned his BA in Genetics from UC Berkeley and his PhD in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University. His distinguished career includes being elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
