Biography

Michael Lounsbury is a Professor and holds the A.F. (Chip) Collins Chair and Roger S. Smith Professorship at the University of Alberta’s Alberta School of Business. He is also the Academic Director of the eHUB Entrepreneurship Centre and serves as Chair of the Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship Management. Lounsbury has held numerous positions at the Alberta School of Business, including Associate Dean of Research and Canada Research Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from 2014 to 2022. His research primarily focuses on the intersection of entrepreneurship and institutional change, with a specific interest in cultural entrepreneurship and the creation of new industries and practices. He has published extensively in top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, and Strategic Management Journal. Michael has been recognized for his contributions to the field, being named to the Stanford/Elsevier top 2% Scientists List in 2020 and becoming an Elected Fellow of the Academy of Management in 2018. He also received the J. Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research from the University of Alberta in 2020 and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2025.
