Biography

Michael Lynn is a professor of consumer behavior in marketing at Cornell University's Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. He received his PhD in social psychology from Ohio State University in 1987 and has been teaching in marketing departments at business and hospitality schools since 1988. Lynn's journey began in the service industry, where he worked as a waiter and bartender, which ignited his interest in service gratuities, a topic on which he has published over 50 academic papers. His research primarily explores consumer status and uniqueness seeking behaviors. Additionally, Lynn serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Behavioral Experimental Economics and is the current editor of the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly.
