Biography

Michael Ma currently serves as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Stanford University's Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. His clinical focus encompasses aspects of congenital heart disease, with a focus on neonates, complex biventricular repair, pulmonary artery reconstruction, and heart failure. He is also the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies (PACT) Program, a combined heart failure and heart transplant program, and the Biventricular Reconstruction Program. He directs the Cardiovascular Engineering Research Laboratory, applying biomechanical engineering principles to optimize existing surgical approaches and develop new surgical and endovascular therapies for treating complex heart defects. He has received several board certifications in Thoracic Surgery and completed fellowships at Stanford University. His research interests include biomechanics governing congenital heart defects, simulation operations, and optimizing surgical techniques.
