Biography

Michael Magcamit is a Lecturer in Global Politics at the University of Manchester and a Leverhulme International Fellow for 2024-2025. His research lies at the intersection of Critical International Security, Peace and Conflict Studies, and International Political Economy, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. Before joining Manchester in August 2023, he was a Lecturer in Security Studies at the University of Leicester. He has also held positions as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Queen Mary University and as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Musashi University. His research interests include ethnoreligious conflicts, security politics, international trade, populism, and foreign policy. Magcamit has published significant works, including 'Ethnoreligious Otherings and Passionate Conflicts' (Oxford University Press, 2022) and 'Small Powers Trading Security' (Palgrave/Springer, 2016). He is involved in ongoing research funded by the European Commission and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, focusing on decolonizing peacebuilding in conflict-affected communities in Southeast Asia. In addition to his research, Magcamit teaches and supervises graduate and undergraduate courses in international relations and security studies, where he is committed to mentoring PhD researchers on diverse critical themes.
