Dr. Michael Mancera

Biography

Michael Mancera is an Associate Professor in the Division of Prehospital Medicine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) education and quality assurance. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and has a particular interest in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and quality-driven improvements in prehospital training. Dr. Mancera received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Michigan State University. He further pursued fellowship training in EMS at Indiana University. Currently, he serves as the Medical Director for Fitch-Rona EMS and Middleton EMS, as well as Medical Advisor for Dane County EMS. Dr. Mancera has developed and taught high-performance CPR techniques for EMS providers and has delivered numerous training sessions and lectures for local EMS partners. As the inaugural director of the accredited EMS Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, he has contributed significantly to training the next generation of EMS medical directors. Notably, in 2021, he was recognized on the Citizen CPR Foundation's 40 under 40 list, which highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to improving outcomes in sudden cardiac arrest. Dr. Mancera's work in implementing the Cardiac Arrest Registry Enhanced Survival (CARES) program in Dane County has led to continuous improvements in the area’s out-of-hospital cardiac arrest outcomes.
