Biography

Mike Marber is a physician scientist with primary research interests in the processes causing heart cell death and clinical interests in patient care relating to acute myocardial infarction. He graduated from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London in 1984, having completed an intercalated BSc in Biophysics. His clinical training took place at Brompton, St. Peter’s, and St. George’s Hospitals, followed by a PhD in physiology at University College London and postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego. In 1996, he was appointed Senior Lecturer at King's College London and Consultant Cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, and was subsequently promoted to Professor of Cardiology in 1999. He leads an interdisciplinary research group focusing on biomarkers of myocardial injury and drug discovery strategies aimed at improving outcomes in myocardial infarction and heart failure. His translational research includes efforts utilizing cardiac myosin-binding protein C (cMyC) to triage patients with chest pain and finding small molecules to disrupt the interaction between p38α mitogen-activated protein kinase and TGF-beta activated kinase 1 binding protein 1 (TAB1).
