Biography

Mike McArthur joined Goodson Law Library in September 2017. He received his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law, his M.L.I.S. from the University of Washington, and holds a BA in Japanese from Brigham Young University. Prior to arriving at Duke, he worked as a Reference Librarian at the University of Michigan Law Library for several years. Mike teaches courses in Foreign, Comparative, and International Legal Research Methods, as well as AI Legal Research. He co-teaches sections of the first-year JD LLM legal research writing course and presents on topics related to publishing in U.S. Law Reviews and Legal Citation Standards, alongside introductory topics in U.S. Legal Research. He is a member of the Washington State Bar and actively participates in the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL), American Society of International Law (ASIL), and the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL). Mike has served as past chair of AALL’s FCIL Special Interest Section and currently chairs the ASIL Jus Gentium Award Committee, in addition to being a member of the NELLCO Resource Review Team.
