Biography

Michael McCartin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago, specializing in Emergency Medicine. He serves as the Assistant Medical Director for the University of Chicago Aeromedical Network (UCAN), where he is actively involved in emergency medicine services and flight medicine. He completed his medical education, including an Emergency Medicine Residency and an Emergency Medical Services Fellowship, at the University of Chicago. McCartin has a diverse background, having served for eight years as a U.S. Air Force Pararescueman, which has significantly influenced his approach to emergency medical services. His professional interests include flight medicine, critical care transport, urban search and rescue, and prehospital transfusion practices. He has contributed to multiple publications in esteemed medical journals, addressing critical topics such as the management of cardiac emergencies in air medical transport and the effectiveness of emergency medical services in various contexts.
