Biography

Michael McDonald is an Associate Professor at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Queen’s University in 2005 and a Master of Science in 2007, working under the supervision of Prof. Stephane Courteau. He completed his PhD at the University of Maryland in 2011 focusing on emission-line studies of giant elliptical galaxies, advised by Prof. Sylvain Veilleux. In 2012, he received the distinction of Hubble Postdoctoral Fellow at the Kavli Institute. His research interests include astrophysics, galaxy formation, and evolution, with a particular focus on the study of large-scale structures in the universe, and how these galaxies interact with their environment. He is actively involved in various collaborative projects aimed at understanding the dynamics of galactic systems, employing both observational and theoretical approaches to advance the knowledge in his field.
