Biography

Michael McDonald is an Associate Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research. His research focuses on the evolution of galaxy clusters and the role that the environment plays in dictating this evolution. He conducts discovery studies of distant galaxy assemblies alongside detailed analyses of the complex interplay between gas, galaxies, and black holes in the most massive systems. His work utilizes a wide variety of ground-based and space-based observatories, including, but not limited to, the Hubble and Chandra space telescopes, as well as the Magellan and ALMA telescopes located in Chile.
