Biography

Michael McOsker holds a BA in Classics and a PhD from the University of Michigan, focusing on various aspects of poetics, particularly the works of Philodemus of Gadara. His significant publications include 'On Good Poem According to Philodemus' released by Oxford in 2021 and an edited English translation of Philodemus’ 'Anger' published in 2020 by SBL. McOsker’s research primarily encompasses literary studies, Herculaneum papyrology, Greek stylistics, and the reception of Greek thought in Roman contexts. He has been recognized as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the University of Cologne. His academic career includes a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cologne, where he worked in the Institute for Ancient Studies from September 2021 to August 2023. Currently, he is engaged as a researcher in papyrology at University College London in the Department of Greek and Latin since October 2023. He is proficient in several languages, including German, Italian, French, Ancient Greek, Latin, and Hebrew, and is involved in various academic activities such as peer reviews, consultancy, and community engagement.
