Dr. Michael Miksis

Biography

Michael J. Miksis is a Professor of Engineering Sciences and Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University. He also serves as the Director of MS Studies for Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics. Miksis earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from New York University, where he also received his M.S. in the same field. He holds a B.S. in Physics from Drexel University. His research interests lie primarily in theoretical computational fluid mechanics, materials science relating to biology with a focus on microfluidics and electrohydrodynamics, as well as soft matter theory. His work also includes asymptotic perturbation methods and other computational techniques. Miksis has significantly contributed to the academic community, being a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Physical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). He served as Vice President of SIAM and was the Editor-in-Chief of the SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics from 2009 to 2014. His recent publications include notable works in journals such as Physical Review E and Soft Matter, covering topics like electrohydrodynamic flow and stationary shapes of axisymmetric vesicles.
