Biography

Michael P. Mills, D.M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. He has an extensive career background having completed a distinguished 30-year career in the Air Force, where he served as the Chairman and Program Director of the United States Air Force Periodontics Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center from 1993 to 2000. Dr. Mills received his dental degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1974 and completed specialty training in Periodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He has authored or co-authored 33 scientific articles and textbook chapters and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Mills has served as a member and chair of numerous committees within these organizations. His research interests cover clinical periodontics and dental implantology, with a particular focus on osseous surgery and surgical anatomy. He has been recognized with several awards throughout his career, including the American Academy of Periodontology Outstanding Periodontal Educator Award in 2015 and the 2017 AAP R. Earl Robinson Regeneration Award.
