Biography

Michael James Molloy is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of History at Carleton University, specializing in immigration and refugee policies. With over 35 years of experience in international refugee affairs, he has worked in various nations including Japan, Lebanon, and Kenya, notably assisting 6,000 Ugandan Asians in 1972. In his role as a foreign service officer, he coordinated the resettlement of 60,000 Indochinese refugees in the late 1970s and managed Canadian immigration operations in Jordan and Syria. After retirement, he co-directed the Jerusalem Old City Initiative at the Munk Center, University of Windsor, and taught on Middle East peace processes at the University of Ottawa. Molloy is also recognized for his significant contributions to Canadian immigration history and has served as president of the Canadian Immigration Historical Society. His research interests encompass immigration policy, refugee resettlement, and humanitarian immigration.
