Biography

Michael Mopas is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University, where he also holds a cross-appointment with the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Department of Law and Legal Studies. He earned his PhD from the Centre of Criminology and Sociolegal Studies at the University of Toronto and specializes in the area of science and technology law. His past research has focused on the regulation of Internet representations, forensics, and popular culture. He has published articles on public criminology and access to research. Currently, he is completing a SSHRC-funded project that examines the role of sound in law, exploring how judges interpret auditory evidence. Michael is also pursuing a BMus (Honours) degree part-time at Carleton University. In addition to his academic interests, he plays upright bass in jazz bands and participates in long-distance triathlons, having completed several Ironman races.
