Biography

Michael Moseley is a professor in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University, specializing in Radiological Sciences. He completed his doctorate at Uppsala University in Sweden in 1980 and underwent postdoctoral work at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. His pioneering work in diffusion MRI has greatly advanced the field, particularly in relation to identifying early events in cerebral vascular diseases through advanced neuroimaging techniques. Moseley co-founded the DWI PWI Study Group within the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and has held several leadership roles, including serving as President of ISMRM and becoming a Fellow in 1998. He has been recognized with several awards, including the ISMRM Gold Medal in 2001 and the Cruse-Kressel Award in 2014. His research interests focus on developing MR methods for effective diagnosis and understanding of stroke and other vascular diseases, emphasizing the significance of non-invasive imaging techniques that utilize water diffusion to investigate brain tissues. He has authored numerous articles and contributed to many textbooks in the field. Moseley is actively engaged in teaching and mentoring students, directing summer courses, and participating in various professional outreach initiatives.
