Biography

Michael J. Neely earned B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1997. He was awarded a three-year Department of Defense NDSEG Fellowship for graduate study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1999 and Ph.D. in 2003. Neely joined the faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California in 2004 and is currently a professor. His research interests encompass stochastic network optimization and queueing theory, with applications in wireless networks, mobile ad-hoc networks, and switching systems. His contributions include the analysis and design of wireless and computer networks, as well as general queueing systems, focusing on energy-efficient scheduling in networks affected by random events. Throughout his career, he has received various accolades, including the NSF Career Award in 2008 and the Viterbi School of Engineering Junior Faculty Research Award in 2009. He is a member of prestigious academic societies, such as Tau Beta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa.
