Biography

Michael teaches, researches, and practices law, specializing in areas such as Canadian comparative criminal law, evidence, anti-terrorism laws, national security law policy, and autonomous economic sanctions. He is a Fellow at the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies and serves as an Editor for the Law and Criminology Journal. Michael joined the Faculty of Law in July 2015 after practicing law with a focus on Middle East policy, autonomous sanctions, and human rights, particularly anti-terrorism efforts at Global Affairs Canada. Before this, he completed his articles at Canada's Department of Justice, emphasizing criminal law. Furthermore, he has gained international experience working with the United Nations' International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Appeals Chamber. His current research projects include a study on foreign interference in Canada and a book project on comparative terrorism prosecutions and sentencing practices, along with an evaluation of Canada's autonomous sanctions regimes.
