Biography

Michael Ng received his B.Eng. degree (First class) in electronic engineering and his Ph.D. degree in telecommunications from the University of Southampton, U.K., in 1999 and 2002, respectively. He became a postdoctoral research fellow in 2003, working on collaborative European research projects known as SCOUT and NEWCOM PHOENIX. In August 2006, he joined the academic staff of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, where he has been a principal investigator for the EPSRC project titled "Cooperative Classical Quantum Communications Systems". His research interests span adaptive coded modulation, channel coding, space-time coding, quantum communications, and machine learning, alongside other related fields. Michael has published over 260 papers and has co-authored books with John Wiley and IEEE Press. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IET. Throughout his career, he has served in various roles including TPC chair and editor for multiple journals, and he has played a leading role in academic guidance through various positions at the university.
