Biography

Michael O'Driscoll is a Professor in the Department of English and Film Studies at the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD from Western University (1996), an MA from the University of Waterloo (1991), and a Bachelor of Arts Honours from the University of Waterloo (1989). His areas of expertise include critical cultural theories, material culture studies focusing on poetry and poetics, archive theory, book history, petrocultures, and the study of sound and listening. He has served for ten years as an editor for the journal ESC: English Studies in Canada and is currently a Governing Board Member of the SSHRC-funded SpokenWeb Project. O'Driscoll teaches courses ranging from Listening Literature to Literary Sound Studies and has published notable works, including the edition of Jackson Mac Low’s Complete Light Poems in 2015. He is passionate about graduate supervision and considers it one of the most rewarding aspects of his professional life.
