Professor Dr. Michael Parker

Biography

Professor Michael Parker has been a tutor at the University of Oxford’s Department of Continuing Education since 2016. His career began in teaching, where he served as the Head of English in various secondary institutions, and later moved to universities in Northwest England. He has also held Visiting Professor positions in Europe and the United States. Currently, he is in the process of completing 'Seamus Heaney: Legacies, Afterlives,' a critical study focused on the poet's middle and late career, including aspects of translation. Parker was elected as a Fellow of the English Association in 2011. His research interests encompass modern and contemporary poetry, as well as fiction and drama within historical contexts, with a particular emphasis on Irish literature, Northern Irish literature, and the interplay of history and politics in literature. Additionally, he explores Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures, Contemporary British Literature, and Polish Poetry Translation.
