Biography

Michael Pate is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1982, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1978, and his B.S. in Naval Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1970. His research interests focus on alternative energy technologies, including photovoltaics, solar energy, wind systems, geothermal energy, biomass, and improving nuclear energy conversion efficiency. He is also involved in green building technology and sustainability, heat transfer, heat exchangers, and thermal processes. Throughout his career, Pate has received several awards for his contributions to engineering education, including being recognized as a Life Member of ASHRAE and ASME, and receiving the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in 2022. He was also honored with the Professor of the Year Award and various teaching awards at Iowa State University.
