Biography

Dr. Mike Pickell is an orthopaedic surgeon and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, specializing in complex knee reconstruction. He completed his primary medical degree and orthopaedic residency at Queen’s University. His fellowship training included a trauma fellowship at Queen’s University and a sports medicine fellowship at New York University Hospital Joint Disease. Dr. Pickell's clinical practice focuses on complex soft tissue reconstruction and joint preservation surgery of the knee. He is actively involved in the athletic community as the team physician for the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team and as the lead orthopaedic surgeon for University of Ottawa varsity athletics. His research focuses on effective pain management strategies, opioid reduction, basic science biomechanics of the knee, and clinical outcomes of sports medicine procedures. Dr. Pickell is an active member of the AANA, AOSSM, and ISAKOS sports medicine societies and is often invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.
