Biography

Dr. Michael Pickell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Ottawa. He specializes in complex knee reconstruction and completed his primary medical degree and orthopaedic residency at Queen’s University. His fellowship training includes a trauma fellowship at Queen’s University and a sports medicine fellowship at New York University Hospital for Joint Disease. Dr. Pickell's clinical practice focuses on complex soft tissue reconstruction and joint preservation surgery of the knee. He is actively involved in the athletic community as the team physician for the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team and serves as the lead orthopaedic surgeon for University of Ottawa varsity athletics. His research interests center around effective pain management strategies, opioid reduction, basic science biomechanics of the knee, and clinical outcomes of sports medicine procedures. He is an active member of several sport medicine societies, including AANA, AOSSM, and ISAKOS, and has been an invited lecturer both nationally and internationally.
