Biography

Michael Pyrcz is a Professor in the Cockrell School of Engineering and the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the university in the Summer of 2017, bringing with him over 13 years of experience in the subsurface resource industry as a Subsurface Modeler/Geostatistician and a Spatial Data Analytics Research Scientist. His research interests include multivariate and spatiotemporal modeling, data analytics, geostatistics, and machine learning. Throughout his career, Michael has focused on applying scientific methodologies to understand and address complex geological and engineering challenges, with a commitment to using his expertise to impact society positively. A first-generation university student, Michael's journey from a low-income background in Alberta, Canada, to becoming an educator and mentor has shaped his aspirations to inspire the next generation of engineers. He is passionate about outreach and mentoring, believing in the transformative power of education to change lives and broaden opportunities.
