Biography

Michael Reher is an Associate Professor at the Rady School of Management, University of California, San Diego, specializing in Finance. His research lies at the intersection of intermediary finance and household finance, focusing on how the supply of real estate financing impacts housing costs and broader economic outcomes for households. Reher's work has been published in reputable journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and the Journal of Money, Credit, & Banking, among others. He teaches in both the undergraduate business economics program and the Master of Quantitative Finance program. In recognition of his teaching excellence, he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2024. Prior to joining UCSD, Reher gained experience working at the Federal Reserve Banks of Boston and San Francisco, as well as Wealthfront, an automated financial advisor. He completed his PhD in economics at Harvard University in 2019, where he was a John R. Meyer Fellow, and earned his B.S. from Georgetown University in 2014, graduating as valedictorian.
