Dr. Michael Reiter

Biography

Michael Reiter is the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at Duke University, where he has a rich history of academic excellence in research and teaching. His research interests focus primarily on trustworthy computing, including computer communications security, fault-tolerant distributed computing, and applied cryptography. Prior to his role at Duke, Reiter held several prestigious positions, including a directorship at Secure Systems Research at Bell Labs and a professorship at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was the founding Technical Director of CyLab. Reiter has also served as a Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His academic contributions are widely recognized, having received numerous awards such as the Test of Time Award from the ACM Conference on Computer Communications Security. He is a fellow of the IEEE and ACM, highlighting his significant contributions to the field. Throughout his career, Reiter has been actively involved in teaching various advanced courses related to cryptography and computer security, influencing the next generation of computer scientists.
