Biography

Michael Roberts is the William H. Lawrence Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research spans corporate finance, banking, and investments, with a recent focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and finance. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including as co-editor for the Journal of Finance. With over 25 years of teaching experience, he has lectured undergraduates, MBAs, PhD candidates, and executives at institutions including UC Berkeley, Duke University, and Wharton. He is also the academic director for the Essentials of Finance module for the Wharton Global Youth Program, which he developed to provide financial education to high school students. He earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, and both an M.S. in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was recognized with numerous teaching accolades and awards throughout his career.
