Biography

Michael Rodríguez-Muñiz is an Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at the University of California, Berkeley. He was born and raised in Chicago and co-directs the Latinx Social Science Pipeline initiative and the Anticolonial Lab. Michael's research and teaching primarily explore the politics of race, knowledge, and temporality, with a particular focus on Latinx communities and movements. His current research delves into Puerto Rican diasporic anticolonialism, state repression, demographic imaginaries, population politics, race, and political trust, drawing on Du Boisian sociology. He is actively involved in collaborative projects such as Digitizing Barrio, which focuses on creating a community archive with a Puerto Rican emphasis. Michael received his PhD in Sociology from Brown University, an MA in Sociology from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and a BA in Political Science and Mexican Caribbean Studies from Northeastern Illinois University.
