Professor Michael Rogers graduated from the University of Sheffield, UK, in 1989 with first-class honours in Biochemistry, followed by a PhD in bone pharmacology in 1994. He completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Sheffield and then moved to the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Musculoskeletal Pharmacology. His groundbreaking research has elucidated the mechanisms of action of bisphosphonates, a class of anti-resorptive drugs used worldwide as the gold standard treatment for osteoporosis, bone metastases, and childhood bone disorders. Among his over 90 publications and 38 reviews/book chapters, his work on bisphosphonates has transformed understanding of their pharmacology. He continues to investigate the anti-cancer and immune-modulatory effects of bisphosphonates as well as their roles in autoinflammatory disorders. Professor Rogers has strong links with the pharmaceutical industry and serves on several editorial boards and grant committees, contributing to over 15,000 citations to his work.
