Biography

Michael Rowe was promoted to Reader in European History in 2017 and has been with King’s College London since 2004, previously serving as a Lecturer. His academic career began at Queen’s University Belfast, where he taught from 1999 to 2004. Rowe held a Prize Research Fellowship at Nuffield College, Oxford, from 1996 to 1999 after completing his PhD at Cambridge University. He holds a BA in Medieval and Modern History from King’s College London. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society since 2004, Rowe’s research interests include Nationalism, Identity Politics in Europe from approximately 1750-1914, and the French Revolution among others. He is an active member of the German History Society and co-convenes the Modern German History seminar. Rowe’s publications include works on the Napoleonic Wars and German history, with significant contributions to various scholarly journals and edited volumes. His teaching spans a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, focusing particularly on the history of warfare, religion, and politics in Europe during the Napoleonic era and the long nineteenth century.
