Biography

Michael Shackleton received his degree in Politics and Philosophy from Worcester College, Oxford in 1972, and later obtained an MA in International Relations from the University of Sussex in 1973. He earned a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Warwick in 1985. Dr. Shackleton's experience includes working as an in-service trainee with the Information Directorate-General of the European Communities from 1973 to 1974, followed by a tenure at the Open University in Great Britain from 1974 to 1980, where he served first as a course assistant and subsequently as a lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences. He joined the Secretariat of the European Parliament in 1981 and held various positions, including secretary to the Committee on Budgets and head of the Service responsible for conciliations in the codecision procedure between the Council and Parliament from 1997 to 2004. Dr. Shackleton launched the European Parliament's web TV channel, europarltv, in September 2008. He has published widely on European Community topics, including co-editing significant works and contributing to various journals. He has lectured and served as a visiting professor in various prestigious institutions, with a focus on European institutions and governance.
