Biography

Michael Joseph Smith is a Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Duke University. His clinical research focuses on the prevention and treatment of infections in children, particularly in pediatric antimicrobial stewardship and vaccine safety. He is the Principal Investigator for a PCORI-funded project assessing outpatient antibiotic use for respiratory tract infections in children within the Duke University Health System, and also serves as Co-Director of the Duke Vaccine Trials Unit. He completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Children's Hospital Philadelphia and has held various positions within pediatric medicine, including serving as an Associate Professor and Instructor.
