Dr. Michael Stein

Biography

Michael Stein is a prominent Chair Professor at Boston University in the School of Public Health, specializing in Law, Policy & Management. He earned his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and a BA from Harvard College. Dr. Stein leads significant research in behavioral medicine, focusing particularly on the intersections of substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, and mental health issues, as well as determinants of risk-taking behaviors. With over 450 scientific journal articles to his name, he is recognized as a leading expert in his field and is known for his contributions to NIH grant generations over several decades. Stein has also gained recognition as an award-winning author, having published six novels and nine non-fiction books; his most recent works include 'Me vs. Health Divided' and 'Accidental Kindness: Doctor's Notes on Empathy', released in 2022, with another book set to publish in 2025. As Executive Editor of the online magazine Public Health Post, he is dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within educational settings and strives to create an environment where all voices are heard and respected.
