Prof. Stewart’s research interests primarily focus on field high temperature geochemistry and igneous petrology. Current projects include investigating the origin of andesitic dikes in the Wasatch Igneous Belt in Utah, studying the origin of mafic enclaves in the Alta Stock of the Wasatch Range, and analyzing stable-Cl isotope systematics in igneous systems. He also explores volcanism and lithospheric recycling in relation to Jupiter's moon Io. Previously, he conducted geochemical investigations of mafic dikes and lavas recovered from the Pacific Ocean crust using the deep submersible Alvin.
