Biography

Michael Strauss is interested in aspects of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology, particularly in the context of wide-field imaging and spectroscopic surveys of the sky. He has utilized large surveys such as IRAS and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to study the large-scale distribution of galaxies and constrain cosmological parameters, investigating the relationship between galaxy properties and their environment, as well as the nature and evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and quasars at large redshifts. Currently, Michael is using data from the Hyper Suprime-Cam at the Subaru Telescope to search for distant quasars and study the properties of the galaxies that host them. He is actively involved in planning the generation of large surveys, including the Prime Focus Spectrograph and the Subaru Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time.
